Switzerland does allow a private individual to bring in medicines for their own personal treatment. However this rule comes with a lot of rules. Not following these rules can affect your chances of sending a medicine to Switzerland. The Swissmedic (the Swiss Agency for Therapeutic Products) makes it clear in its guidelines that a private individual may import medicine for personal use. However, it states that the quantity must be equal to one month’s supply. The dates are calculated from the prescribed dose or the dosage stated on the package leaflet. It is not mandatory that the medicine must be registered or authorised in Switzerland for this personal-use allowance to apply, and no medical certificate is required for ordinary, non-narcotic medicines. Two conditions matter a great deal here. First, the shipment has to be for the personal treatment of the named receiver. Please note that it cannot be imported on behalf of someone else, including a family member. Second, Swiss customs (the Federal Office for Customs and Border Security, FOCBS) and Swissmedic actively monitor incoming parcels to confirm the medicine is authorised or otherwise compliant, and that the quantity does not exceed the one-month limit. A parcel that looks like it exceeds personal-use quantities, or that cannot be clearly tied to the named recipient’s own treatment is bound to be held back and referred to Swissmedic for a compliance decision. This step adds time and can mean the shipment is returned, or in some cases destroyed. We review every Switzerland-bound shipment individually before booking. We check all parameters including medicine classification, quantity against the one-month rule, prescription and pharmacy documentation, and packaging. We follow all the regulations to ensure that our logistics partners have the best chance of clearing without delay.
| Rule | Switzerland |
|---|---|
| Personal supply | The quantity must be limited to one month’s treatment, based on the prescribed dose or package leaflet. |
| Receiver requirement | Medicine must be for the named receiver’s own treatment. It cannot be on a family member’s name or some third person’s name. If found that way, then necessary action will be taken. |
| Packaging | This is an important aspect of the courier process. The sender must ensure that they have original, sealed manufacturer’s packaging. Plus the label must be intact. |
| Narcotic/psychotropic medicines | These medicines are subject to a one-month limit and require additional certification. Such medicines generally require special delivery. |
| Oversight authority | Swissmedic and the Federal Office for Customs and Border Security (FOCBS/BAZG) is the one official organization that makes decisions in such cases. |
As mentioned above, as per the laws of Switzerland, one can send medicines for personal use. Atlantic International Express has a swift process to handle courier delivery of personal medicines that are legally eligible and fit into the brackets of permissible medicines.

Getting the documents ready ensures that you enjoy a swift and hurdle-free delivery. Being proactive with documents helps in limiting delays with customs and assisting with fast international shipping of medicines. Otherwise, your parcel has the risk of getting rejected.
Here is a list of required documents:
Valid doctor’s prescription: The prescription must be signed by a registered medical practitioner. The prescription must also show the dosage clearly so the one-month quantity can be verified.
Pharmacy bill or invoice: The invoice works as the proof for legal purchase of the medicine. The invoice should also be in the name of the courier receiver.
Sender KYC: These include details such as copies of Aadhaar Card, PAN Card, or Passport.
Receiver’s details: Detailed address of the recipient in Switzerland and their contact details for swift medical medicial courier.
Personal-use declaration: This document confirms that the medicines are for the named receiver’s own treatment, not resale or a third party.
Additional certification: This includes any other documents that are requested by the Swiss customs for any legal purposes.
All medicine deliveries made by Atlantic International Express undergo a rigorous compliance check prior to shipment. Our experts review the category of the drug, the validity of the prescription, pharmacy invoice details, quantity against Switzerland’s one-month personal-use limit, size of parcel, and standardisation of the medicines, as well as rules in the country of destination, and sender and recipient details. This review ensures the customer does not face any issues in the later stages of the delivery process. After successful check and review, we authorize the shipment to send it through our reliable international courier process. Once this is done, you will receive the tracking number and other details.
You can start the process by just giving us a call or WhatsApp, or by filling out our online enquiry form. Here, we ask you to give us the pickup address, the Switzerland destination address, and the list of medicines. Once we receive all the required information, we shall give you an upfront quote for the courier process.
We collect your parcel from your door, anywhere in India. Please ensure that your medicines are in the original packaging provided by the Manufacturer of the medicines. Once this criteria is met, we take care of the entire export-ready packaging required for transporting them to Switzerland.
